Likely, you’ve been wondering about the very best ways (and supplies) you need to keep your CPAP machine, mask, and accessories as clean as new. We recently discussed this very important subject, but today we’re breaking down just the CPAP cleaning supplies.

WIPES

Specially designed CPAP Mask Cleaning Wipes are a super handy option to have on hand for easy cleaning. These 100% cotton wipes gently and naturally remove oil and dirt from your CPAP mask, CPAP machine, and equipment. They’re unscented, hypoallergenic, biodegradable, and alcohol- and latex-free. The all-natural ingredients are gentle on the hands and face.

And while there may be shortages of disinfectant wipes across the country, rest assured that we are stocked up here at cpapRX!

Pro Tip: Use these wipes in conjunction with the SoClean CPAP cleaner to maximize sanitation.

SOCLEAN SANITIZER

When it comes to CPAP cleaning, nothing beats this beautiful little workhorse. The SoClean 2 is an automated CPAP equipment cleaner and sanitizer. With the SoClean 2 CPAP cleaning machine, you can sanitize and disinfect your CPAP mask, hose, AND reservoir without needing to take any pieces apart every day.

The machine does not require water or any messy chemicals in order to avoid condensation and ensure your equipment remains completely dry. We are big fans of the SoClean machine and recommend it for every patient who goes home with a mask, machine, and supplies.

GOOD OL’ SOAP AND WATER

While there are awesome tools available to expedite your CPAP cleaning process, we know that they may not fit into everyone’s budget (or on their nightstand!). Thankfully, a good old fashioned soak in the tub or sink with clean drinking water and a gentle rub with mild soap will clean any oils off your supplies. But do not put your entire CPAP machine itself into the water, just the separate CPAP supplies like the mask and tubing.

However, harsher soaps like dish detergent can leave a harmful residue, so it’s best to avoid them. Always be sure to thoroughly rinse your supplies after cleaning, and then fully (yes, FULLY) air dry, avoiding direct sunlight.

And because we’d be remiss to reiterate a very important first step: Disconnect your mask and tubing from the machine itself and then disassemble your CPAP mask into the following parts: headgear, cushion, and frame.

WATER + VINEGAR

Another option for those either looking to stick within a budget or use a more “green” cleaning supply approach: you can disinfect your CPAP mask by soaking in a solution of 2 parts white vinegar to 3 parts water (for example, 1 cup white vinegar to 1½ cups water), then rinse thoroughly and allow to air (fully, yes FULLY) dry. Toss the vinegar solution after each use and remake a fresh batch each time.

Nearly as important as which CPAP cleaning supplies are safe to use are the ones that are not. Here’s a quick list of cleaning supplies that you should avoid at all costs to extend the life of your supplies.

CPAP CLEANING NO-NO’S

Scented products and/or essential oils

Antibacterial soaps and/or disinfectants

Dish Detergent (as mentioned above)

Alcohol

Bleach

Washing machine or dryer

We know it may be tempting to take your cpap cleaning process into your own hands, or even experiment, but trust us on this one when we say, “follow the Dr.’s orders.”

Thankfully, with our great team of real-life people, we are here for any questions or concerns you may have about ensuring proper cleanliness for all of your CPAP supplies.
